Sunflower Crochet Pattern - A Free Crochet Pattern

Creating a beautiful crochet sunflower can add a touch of warmth and charm to any project. This free crochet pattern is easy to follow and yields a lovely finished product that measures approximately 4.5" x 4.5". Here is a detailed guide to help you crochet your very own sunflower:

Materials Needed:

  • Four weight yarn
  • Color A: Skein Tones in Maghoney (less than 40 yards)
  • Color B: Heartland in Canyonlands (less than 60 yards)
  • Crochet Hook 5.5 mm (I-9)
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle (aka tapestry needle)
  • Stitch markers (to help mark the first st of the round)

Pattern:

Round 1:

With Color A, create a magic circle and hdc into the circle for a total of 10 times. Slip stitch to the first hdc to join (10 stitches).

Round 2:

Chain 1, *bo, sc* repeat around, slip stitch to the bottom of the bobble and then slip stitch to the top of the next bobble (10 stitches).

Round 3:

Join in Color B, *ch 2, dc, tr, ch 3 (slip stitch into the third chain from the hook), tr, dc, hdc all into the same stitch, slip stitch into the next stitch* repeat around, ending with a slip stitch into the top of the chain 2 of the first petal of the round. This will result in a total of 11 petals (11 stitches).

Finishing:

Fasten off the yarn, cut with scissors, and weave in any loose ends with a yarn needle to tidy up the sunflower pattern.

Blocking:

Blocking the sunflower is recommended for a crisp and even petal look. To block, pin down the sunflower on a blocking mat by placing a pin in each end of the petal. Spray water over the flower and allow it to air dry. You can see the visual difference between a blocked and unblocked sunflower above.
