Cowl Scarf Crochet Pattern - A Free Crochet Pattern

If you are looking for a cozy and stylish accessory to add to your winter wardrobe, look no further than the Cowl Scarf Crochet Pattern. This free crochet pattern is perfect for crocheters of all skill levels and can be completed using just a few simple materials.

Materials Needed:

  • 2 cakes of Mandala Ombre by Lion Brand or less than 688 yards of any four weight yarn (worsted weight)
  • Size I-9 (5.5 mm) crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Crochet Stitches and Abbreviations:

  • ch = chain
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • st(s) = stitch(es)
  • sc = single crochet
  • yo = yarn over
  • rep = repeat
  • puff = puff stitch

Finished Size:

15″ wide x 14″ tall (laid flat) or a 30″ circumference. You can adjust the size of the cowl by using a starting chain in any even number.

Notes:

  • The slip stitch and chain 1's do not count as stitches throughout the pattern.
  • If you want to make the cowl taller to wear as a hooded cowl, simply continue crocheting past the recommended 44 rounds following the repeats of rows 5-8.
  • The pattern is written in US terms.

The Pattern:

Round 1:

Chain 90, join with a slip stitch to form a circle, making sure not to twist the chain.

Round 2:

Chain 1, single crochet into each chain around, slip stitch to the first single crochet of the round. (90)

Round 3:

Chain 1, single crochet into each stitch around, slip stitch to the first single crochet of the round. (90)

Round 4:

Chain 1, single crochet into the first stitch, *puff stitch into the next stitch, single crochet into the following stitch, repeat from * around. (90)

Round 5-42:

Repeat rounds 3-7 alternately.

Round 43-44:

Repeat round 3.

Finishing:

Fasten off the yarn, weave in the loose ends throughout the scarf with a yarn needle.
